The Nintendo Switch 2: Potential Upgrades Revealed

Mar 16, 2024

Rumors about the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 have surfaced, providing insight into possible upgrades for the next-generation console. According to gaming tipster NateTheHate and corroborated by sources known to Video Games Chronicle, the Switch 2 may feature a larger 8-inch LCD display and a substantial increase in storage to 512GB.

The Switch 2 is rumored to offer an upgrade over its predecessor, the original Nintendo Switch, which had a 6.2-inch screen. This 8-inch screen would surpass the 7-inch OLED display found on the recent Nintendo Switch OLED model, although it would utilize a less advanced panel.

In addition to the display, the Switch 2 is said to retain the use of cartridges but introduce a new format. It is also reported to come with a notable upgrade in onboard storage, with 512GB available. This is a significant improvement compared to the original Switch’s relatively meager 32GB.

Sources have suggested that the Switch 2 could be released in the second half of 2024. However, there have been conflicting rumors regarding the release timeframe, with some indicating an early 2024 launch.

Concrete details about the Switch 2 are scarce, as Nintendo tends to keep its hardware plans under tight wraps. Nevertheless, as the original Switch celebrated its 6th anniversary earlier this year, speculation is high that a more powerful and capable successor is on the horizon, particularly given the prevalence of 4K TVs since 2017.

While an LCD display for the Switch 2 may be seen as disappointing compared to the OLED display of its sibling, it could allow for a higher refresh rate without impacting the price. The news of increased onboard storage is promising, as games continue to grow in size, often requiring additional SD cards for storage expansion.

Although these rumors are still unconfirmed, the possibility of a new Nintendo console or at least an insight into Nintendo’s console roadmap in the coming year seems highly probable. Nintendo fans eagerly await further information and official announcements about the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
